Getting to Know Nashville

February 19, 2023 by Ashley Vourazeris Leave a Comment

Before you pack up and head to Music City, it’s important to get to know the lay of the land. Nashville is divided into several distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and charm.

  • Downtown – This bustling area is the heart of the city, with an endless array of restaurants, bars, and entertainment options.
  • East Nashville – This trendy neighborhood is home to some of the city’s best restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife.
  • Germantown – With its historic architecture and quiet streets, Germantown is a great option for those seeking a more laid-back lifestyle.
  • The Gulch – This up-and-coming area is known for its high-end shops and trendy restaurants.
  • Hillsboro Village – This vibrant neighborhood is home to Vanderbilt University and is a popular spot for young professionals and families.

Housing and Real Estate

As with any big move, finding the right place to call home is key. Nashville has a range of housing options, from downtown apartments to spacious suburban homes.

  • Downtown Apartments – If you want to be in the heart of the action, downtown apartments are a great choice. However, be prepared to pay a premium for the convenience.
  • East Nashville Bungalows – This trendy neighborhood is full of charming bungalows and historic homes.
  • Suburban Homes – If you’re looking for more space and a quieter lifestyle, the suburbs may be for you. Areas like Brentwood and Franklin offer plenty of suburban charm while still being just a short drive from downtown.

No matter what type of housing you’re looking for, be sure to work with a reputable real estate agent who knows the Nashville market well.

Cost of Living

Compared to other major cities in the United States, Nashville has a relatively low cost of living. However, it’s still important to budget accordingly to avoid any surprises.

  • Housing – Depending on the area and type of housing, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 per month for rent.
  • Transportation – Nashville does have public transportation options, but they can be limited. You may need to budget for a car and associated expenses.
  • Entertainment – With so much to see and do in Nashville, it’s easy to overspend on entertainment. Make a budget and stick to it to avoid overspending.

Job Market

Nashville is home to a thriving job market, with opportunities in a range of industries. The city is particularly strong in healthcare, music, and technology.

  • Healthcare – Nashville is home to some of the country’s top healthcare companies, including HCA Healthcare and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
  • Music – Music is the lifeblood of Nashville, and there are countless opportunities in the music industry, from performing to recording to marketing.
  • Technology – Nashville has a growing technology sector, with companies like Asurion and Emma calling the city home.

Education

If you’re moving to Nashville with children, education is likely a top priority. Fortunately, Nashville has a range of excellent public and private schools.
